Senior Producer Eric Maierson’s post “I Hate ‘Multimedia’” stirred up a discussion on what success in our industry looks like and what is required to get us there. We used your comments and questions to ask our Executive Producer and Founder Brian Storm (with thoughts from Director of Photography Rick Gershon) how visual storytellers can flourish in a constantly evolving industry. Do you hate ‘multimedia’ too? Hate is a strong word, but I would argue that word has become meaningless. It’s sort of like saying “awesome.” What does awesome mean anymore? Everything is awesome. Transom Now Accepting Applications for 2013 Spring Workshop

Transom has just released the application for its two-month intensive workshop to be held in April and May 2013. The lead instructor for this workshop will be Rob Rosenthal, along with Sarah Reynolds, the Transom Team, and special guests including Sean Cole and many others. Deadline to apply is January 4th. The Transom Story Workshop The Transom Story Workshop is an eight-week, full time training workshop for beginning radio producers. The Spring 2013 session will take place in Woods Hole, MA from April 1 through May 24, 2013. Cost is $6,500 and includes a license to Hindenburg Journalist, an audio editing software. Knight Digital Media Center looking for News Entrepreneurs and Newsroom Leaders for Upcoming Workshops

If you're looking for professional training opportunities, the Knight Digital Media Center has a couple of great programs coming up. The News Entrepreneur Boot Camp is designed for 20 competitively selected digital entrepreneurs with great ideas for community news and information initiatives in the public interest. The boot camp will be held May 16-21, at USC Annenberg. Deadline for applications is February 19, 2010. The Transformative Leadership Institute is looking for people who are already positioned as the new leaders of news and information in the community interest. They are looking for leaders from major established news organizations that are transforming themselves and also for news entrepreneurs who are reinventing models for news and information.
