Join the International Center for Transitional Justice and MediaStorm for the launch of a short documentary narrating the struggle for redress of children born of wartime sexual violence in Northern Uganda. A panel discussion will follow, featuring: Abigail Disney, documentary filmmaker and producer of the Women, War and Peace series Lauren Wolfe, Director, WMC Women Under Siege Tanya Karanasios, deputy program director of WITNESS Sarah Kasande, the head of ICTJ’s office in Uganda Moderator: Virginie Ladisch, director of ICTJ’s Children and Youth Program. The screening will be held on Thursday, February 2, at the Open Society Foundations building at 224 West 57th Street, starting at 6pm.

Obama Announces $90 Million to Clear Laos’ Unexploded Bombs

According to CNN, "President Barack Obama said Tuesday that US has an 'obligation' to help Laos recover from a brutal secret bombing campaign that destroyed parts of the Southeast Asian nation." While visiting the country's capital, Obama pledged $90 million dollars to clear millions of unexploded ordinances. The joint effort will take three years. The Last Move and Life After Water are part of a four-story partnership that pairs the MediaStorm storytelling ethos with Verse’s innovative platform. Both films were recently honored by Photographer of the Year International, one of the oldest and most prestigious photojournalism organizations in the world. The Last Move received third place in Documentary Journalism while Life After Water received the Award of Excellence for Multimedia Issue Reporting. MediaStorm’s Andrew Michael Ellis was also recognized as Multimedia Photographer of the Year. It allows us to take this film from rough cut to fine cut, and we are so grateful for your support and your belief in us. United in the Fight: Films for World AIDS Day

Thirty years after the first cases of HIV, the World Health Organization estimates 35 million people worldwide are currently living with HIV/AIDS. Of these, 3.2 million are children under the age of 15. Today we commemorate World AIDS Day by remembering those who have succumbed to the virus and supporting our amazing collaborators working to treat and prevent this destructive disease. AIDS and Family is Kristen Ashburn's intimate portrait of African mothers, fathers and children being crushed by AIDS. Ashburn's work connects us to these people deeply; we learn that only through such connection is hope possible. GAIA takes the medical breakthroughs of the developed world and brings them to The Far End of the Road. Their focus is one district in Malawi where 1 out of 6 adults are HIV-positive and healthcare can be hours away. 24,000 children under the age of five will die today, many from preventable diseases.
