On Wednesday night, influencers in media and activism gathered at the Paley Center for Media to celebrate the first private screening of The Long Night. MediaStorm’s first feature-length film and the first project funded by the Alexia Foundation’s Women’s Initiative grant, The Long Night is a shining example of both organizations’ commitment to driving change through the power of storytelling.

MediaStorm Welcomes Winter Intern Kathryn Carlson

MediaStorm is excited to welcome Kathryn Carlson to our team as a Winter 2013 production intern. Kathryn Carlson is a filmmaker and video editor from North Carolina. To her, documentary videography exemplifies immersive journalism and really becomes an emotionally educational experience. Her video stories include a short documentary on a 13-year-old psychic that sees spirits, as well as an award-winning video of a sex worker in the Galapagos Islands. She served as the Multimedia Apprentice at National Geographic Magazine, producing numerous projects for digital consumption during her six months there. Whether she's filming her own documentary on a house-broken deer, or piecing together a sizzle reel of photos taken over the last century, Kathryn delights in the challenge that each new project brings. Kathryn graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in Photojournalism. You can view her portfolio at www.kathrynlcarlson.com.

Homecoming tells the story of Major Amy Quesenberry. As Major Quesenberry transitioned out of active duty military, she started asking herself what she wanted to do with her civilian life. With all the experiences she had built up over 14 years of service, she found the transition difficult. She isn’t alone. The veteran unemployment rate is nearly double the national average. Breaking away from the traditional viewpoint of veterans as charity cases, the film aims to portray veterans as important members of our community that have the skills and…
