MediaStorm Launches Kickstarter Campaign for Hungry Horse by Pieter ten Hoopen

It's been nearly a decade since Pieter ten Hoopen's photography of American people and landscapes grabbed our attention. For over a year, MediaStorm has been collaborating with Pieter on a documentary film called Hungry Horse. Today we launch a Kickstarter campaign to complete the film and bring the everyday legends of Hungry Horse, Montana to the world. The Project In Hungry Horse, Pieter ten Hoopen touches on the struggles of poverty, drug use and loss. But he more accurately captures the spirit of renewal, peace and serenity in the lives of the people he documents through stunning landscapes and intimate oral histories. Hungry Horse follows the mythical structure of its subjects'  lives—Charlie Krasselt, Brad Lee Bruursema and Katie Kosnoff—and it is through their stories, and ten Hoopen’s powerful imagery that we learn about the timeless cycle of adventure, loss and renewal. Your Part By contributing this campaign, you will help us with the editing…

MediaStorm 2015 Workshop Dates Announced

July 2014 MediaStorm Storytelling Workshop Staff & Participants

2015 marks our eighth training year at MediaStorm. Each year our workshops attract leading industry professionals looking to advance their multimedia and storytelling skills. Over 100 participants have come through our professional workshops and we continue to be humbled by how much they take away from the experience.

Meredith Birkett, Senior Multimedia Editor at NBCNews.com, told us that our Methodology Workshop was “a creativity adrenaline shot for doing storytelling at the highest level and for the right reasons.”

After taking our Storytelling Workshop, Claire Molloy, a freelance documentary filmmaker and editor, had the following to say, “I was in awe by the detail and thought MediaStorm has put into their stories. During the workshop they broke down their methods and process. The team not only discussed their achievements but their failures as well. Showing us you learn a lot from your mistakes. This is a company that truly loves to teach and wants everyone to improve.”

In 2015 we’ll be offering three Methodology, two Storytelling, and six One-day workshops at our studio in Brooklyn, NY. We are looking forward to another exciting, innovative and challenging training year. We hope you’ll be able to join us.

Bring MediaStorm Into Your Classroom

School will soon be in session and we want to go back to class with you. Last year, we launched our Educational Program, offering discounted Online Training subscriptions to students and instructors at accredited universities. Since then, journalism and multimedia programs around the country have made MediaStorm Online Training a part of their teaching strategy. In addition to full access to our library of training videos, we've added a complimentary companion curriculum for educators featuring quizzes and assignments developed by Beatriz Wallace of Duquesne University and Steve Rice at the University of Missouri - Columbia. Wallace had this to say about her experience using our Online Training in the classroom: MediaStorm Online Training captures students with seductive, rebellious and non-judgmental enthusiasm and faith in the possibilities of storytelling. The training videos drive the curriculum, assignments and final products. MediaStorm’s training videos constitute clear directives that prepare students for in-class assignments, editing, production and…
