Jonathan Torgovnik & MediaStorm – Intended Consequences Public Service Announcement

On April 7, 1994, the Rwandan genocide began, resulting in the deaths of between 800,000 and 1,000,000 men, women and children. During the 100 days of violence, Rwandan women were subjected to massive sexual violence, perpetrated by members of the infamous Hutu militia groups known as the Interahamwe. Among the survivors, those who are most isolated are the women who have borne children as a result of being raped. Their families have rejected both them and their children, compounding their already unimaginable emotional distress. An estimated 20,000 children were conceived during the genocide in Rwanda, and many of their mothers contracted HIV during the same encounters that left them pregnant. They feel they have lost their dignity, are alone and utterly powerless. Intended Consequences chronicles the lives of these women. MediaStorm offering Multimedia Storytelling seminar at LOOK3

We are excited to announce that we will be partnering with LOOK3 to offer a one-day Multimedia Storytelling seminar, prior to the Festival of the Photograph this summer.  Whether you're already producing multimedia stories, or are interested but don't know where to start, this workshop with Brian Storm will get you on the right path. The workshop will be focusing primarily on multimedia methodology and theory - this is not designed to teach you how to use your new audio recorder - it's a workshop where you will be asked to look deeper, into the when and why of different storytelling techniques and approaches. The Workshop will be held from 10am-6pm on June 10, 2009, in Charlottesville, VA.  We hope to see you there! Intended Consequences at Aperture Gallery

Jonathan Torgovnik's exhibit for his project Intended Consequences is now on view at the Aperture Gallery, through May 7.  There will also be a panel discussion on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at 6:30 (check the gallery's website for more info). Torgovnik's book, Intended Consequences: Rwandan Children Born of Rape will be released on April 7, 2009, coinciding with the fifteenth anniversary of the start of the genocide. Tim Hussin to join MediaStorm for Summer Internship

We are excited to announce that Tim Hussin will be joining MediaStorm as our Summer 2009 intern. Tim Hussin is an award-winning photographer and a recent graduate in journalism from the University of Florida.  He was named 2008 College Photographer of the Year and will intern at National Geographic in Fall 2009.  Hussin has interned at the Monroe Evening News, Deseret News and Rocky Mountain News.  He was a student at the Eddie Adams Workshop in 2008 where he was awarded an assignment at Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive. MediaStorm’s 2009 Workshop Dates Announced

Dates for the 2009 MediaStorm Advanced Multimedia Reporting Workshops have been announced: Workshop Four: March 7-13, 2009 - Application Deadline: Friday January 23, 2009 Workshop Five: May 2-8, 2009 - Application Deadline: Monday March 30, 2009 Workshop Six: August 8-14, 2009 - Application Deadline: Wednesday July 1, 2009 The MediaStorm Multimedia Reporting Workshop in New York City is an intensive, hands-on educational experience in advanced multimedia storytelling. Over the course of a week, participants will work in three-person teams, reporting and editing in collaboration with a MediaStorm Producer to create a multimedia project for distribution across multiple platforms.
