December Digital Journalist features David Kennerly and Diana Walker

This month's Digital Journalist features work from two renowned photographers, both with new books out. David Kennerly has just released "Extraordinary Circumstances: The Presidency of Gerald R. Ford"- an intimate look at the daily life in the White House during Ford's administration. Another well-known White House photographer, Diana Walker, has also released a book- "The Bigger Picture: 30 Years of Portraits" - featuring not only the high-profile subjects she's often known for, but also portraits of everyday life. Other features this month include an editorial on imprisoned AP Photographer Bilal Hussein, and dispatches from Chris Hondros, William B. Plowman, and VĂ©ronique de Viguerie.

College Photographer of the Year

The results for the 62nd College Photographer of the Year Competition were recently announced, and winning images and stories are now available on the CPOY site. Travis Dove (Ohio University) was named 2007 College Photographer of the Year. Along with the still image categories, awards were also given for Multimedia Project (winner: Jeff Giraldo, Western Kentucky University) , Individual Still Image/Audio Story or Essay (winner: Crystal Street, UNC Chapel Hill) and Individual Video or Mixed Media Photo Story or Essay (winner: Tim Gruber, Ohio University). Congratulations to all!

Poynter Institute Seminars & The Stan Kalish Picture Editing Workshop

The Poynter Institute will be kicking off the new year with a series of audio and multimedia based seminars. In January, they are offering Online Storytelling with Audio and Images. February brings Multimedia Journalism for Every Craft. In March, the Poynter staff teams up with the folks from The Stan Kalish Workshop to host Digital Photo Editing: Print to Motion/Motion to Print. Deadline for the first Poynter seminar is November 26, so don't delay. For those interested in attending both the Poynter Digital Photo Editing seminar and the Stan Kalish Picture Editing Workshop, they are offering a special $100 off deal if you register for both. The Kalish Workshop will be held in Muncie, IN, from May 30-June 4 and June 6-11.

Online MA/Postgraduate Photojournalism and Documentary Photography course launching

The London College of Communication is launching an online MA/Postgraduate Diploma Photojournalism and Documentary Photography distance learning program, to begin January 2008. This part-time course aims to mirror real world practices and prepare students to enter the professional world. Many presentations by visiting speakers will be delivered via podcasts, and students will be encouranged to make use of blogs and online distribution. The course is entirely online, with no requirements for attendance in London. The program will largely focus on digital transitions, and multimedia projects will be emphasized.
