MediaStorm Presents the 2015 ICP Infinity Awardee Films

MediaStorm is pleased to present a film series produced in collaboration with the International Center of Photography with support from Harbers Studios. Since 1985 ICP’s Infinity Awards have brought attention to outstanding achievements in photography by honoring individuals with distinguished careers in the field and identifying future luminaries. The 2015 Infinity Awards films serve as a portrait of some of the important contributors to photography today.  Photojournalism: Tomas van Houtryve Tomas van Houtryve wants there to be a permanent visual record of the dawn of the drone age, the period in American history when America started outsourcing their military to flying robots. In order to create this record, Van Houtryve sent his own drone into American skies. Young Photographer: Evgenia Arbugaeva Evgenia Arbugaeva was born in the magical town of Tiksi, Russia. Storytelling platform Cowbird is on a mission to balance the media landscape by amplifying unheard, marginalized voices from around the world — in their own words, sounds and images.

The very first Cowbird Unheard Voices Grant is now accepting applications for journalists and community organizers through midnight, May 10th, 2015.

MediaStorm Wins NPPA Best of Photojournalism Awards’ Best Use of Multimedia & More

MediaStorm is delighted to announce that The Long Night, our feature-length collaboration with multimedia journalist Tim Matsui funded by the Alexia Foundation, was named Best Use Of Multimedia in NPPA's 2015 Best Of Photojournalism Multimedia contest. The project was also recognized with first place in the Documentary Multimedia Story category. The Los Angeles Times' Product of Mexico was awarded second place in the category while third place went to The Denver Post's Trying to Live, Trying to Learn. MediaStorm was awarded second place in the Multimedia Portfolio category for Hungry Horse: Legends of the Everyday, The Long Night, Japan's Disposable Workers, The Last Chapter, Coney Island Jay and Inside Tracks. The Denver Post took first place in the category, while St. Paul Pioneer Press and the Los Angeles Times received third place and honorable mention respectively. Congratulations to the 2015 Alexia Foundation Grant Recipients

The Alexia Foundation recently announced the recipients of the 2015 Alexia Foundation Grants: Paolo Marchetti for the professional grant and Michael Santiago for the student grant.

Marchetti of Rome, Italy, will receive the $20,000 professional grant for his project “The Price of Vanity.” The work will document the brutality of the intensive breeding farms used worldwide to produce skins and furs for the high-end fashion industry. It intends to expose this cruel cultural trend driven by remorseless beauty demands.
