2013 World Press Photo Winners Announced

World Press Photo has announced the winners of its 2013 Multimedia Competition. In a press statement this morning, the jury chair Keith W. Jenkins said about the competition, “What we see in the winners this year is a high level of sophistication. The entries were uniformly high in quality. Magnum Foundation and Inge Morath Foundation Announce 2013 Competition

The Magnum Foundation and the Inge Morath Foundation have opened the 12th annual Inge Morath Award. The annual award of $5,000 is given to a female photographer under the age of 30 to support the completion of a long-term documentary project. One award winner and up to two finalists are selected by a jury composed of Magnum photographers and the director of the Inge Morath Foundation. How to Enter All submissions must be postmarked or delivered electronically by April 30, 2013. Submissions must include: 40 – 60 photographs (1200 pixels on the longest side @ 150 DPI saved as a JPEG compression at 8 minimum). A project description outlining the project and how the award will be used to complete work on the project. The Ways: Sharing Contemporary Native Culture Through Story

Finn Ryan, a producer, educator and March 2011 MediaStorm Storytelling Workshop participant is a big believer in the importance of storytelling in education. His 2010 project, Climate Wisconsin, which uses multimedia and interactives to explore local climate change impacts, received significant attention when it was published, including a regional Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement for Informational/Instructional Programming. His most recent project, The Ways, produced with Wisconsin Media Lab, features storytelling as a means to share contemporary Native culture and language from around the central Great Lakes. NPPA Best of Photojournalism Deadlines Approaching

The NPPA Best of Photojournalism 2013 Competition deadlines are approaching. NPPA holds annual contests developed by photojournalists for Still Photojournalism, Video Photojournalism, Photojournalism Editing and Multimedia Photojournalism. The deadline for Video Photojournalism is January 25, 3pm EST. The deadline for Still Photojournalism, Photojournalism Editing and Multimedia Photojournalism is February 1, 3pm EST. All of the contests for this year have reconsidered the categories to improve the competition. In the Still Photojournalism contest, categories have been added for the Olympics, the Road to Office and Features. Other changes have been made to clarify the categories to improve the competition. Reynolds Journalism Institute Announces Non-Residential Fellowship

The Reynolds Journalism Institute has announced the addition of a non-residential component to its fellowship program for the 2013-2014 session. The non-residential fellowship was created alongside the existing residential fellowship to add flexibility for applicants. This new component encourages professionals who want to develop an idea while continuing to work at their company/organization. Ideally this would provide a direct benefit to the fellow's company and a clear path for implementation. In addition to the non-residential fellowship, the residential fellowship allows fellows to spend time on the University of Missouri campus.
