‘Presence and Absence’ Opening at Leica Gallery

Presence and Absence, a combined exhibit by Maggie Steber and Carlos Rene Perez opens Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Leica Gallery in New York. The exhibition combines the works Rite of Passage by Maggie Steber and An Artist's Life by Carlos Rene Perez. The two works find commonality in their personal nature and in dealing with issues of isolation. A secondary bond of the pieces is the continuing friendship, support and influence between the two artists, who lived together for more than two decades. The exhibit opens Thursday April 18, 2013 and runs through June 1, 2013. Hours for the opening are from 5-8pm and it is open to the public. The Magnum Foundation and the Open Society Foundations Documentary Photography Project are holding a one-day conference to explore new opportunities and strategies for engagement, innovation and impact. New from MediaStorm–480 Votes for Care

MediaStorm is pleased to announce 480 Votes, a new client project for CARE. This project was produced in collaboration with Ripple Effect Images and support from the Harbers Family Foundation. The project is a short, character-driven video piece that shows the life-changing impact CARE’s programs have had on the life of a woman in rural Peru. The piece extends beyond the surface of what the organization provided and speaks to the psychological effects of empowerment. Project Synopsis: Lourdes Pilco is a middle-aged woman who’s spent most of her life working backbreaking jobs for little money. With the help of CARE, Lourdes was able to send her children to school while setting a new standard for women in her community.
