The 2012 NPPA Advanced Storytelling Workshop takes place April 15-20, 2012 at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. This exciting week-long workshop is designed for experienced TV and newspaper photojournalists, reporters and video journalists, and anyone who tells stories with pictures, sound and words. The workshop emphasizes the development of a clear focus before shooting begins, while the production of finished stories focuses on shooting, writing, and editing under real world deadlines. If you attended The Oklahoma News Video Workshop, our sessions pick up where they leave off. This year's instructors include Boyd Huppert, John Goheen, Jonathan Malat, Bev Chapman, Michelle Michael, Brett Akagi, and Steve Sweitzer. Newsday is looking to hire 2 full-time, Manhattan-based Photo/Video editors for their new Manhattan office. The candidate must be skilled at keeping on top of the news and ensuring that the photo needs of the site are being met. He/she must assemble and manage a pool of freelancers and work with editors/reporters/news managers to assign shoots. They also must coordinate with other Cablevision properties including Newsday and News 12. The Digital Photo-Video Editor will be responsible to:  Oversee photo and video needs for the site and its digital platforms. Hire and manage pool of freelancers. NOOR-Nikon 2012 Masterclass in Documentary Photography, Cape Town

This year's NOOR-Nikon Masterclass in Documentary Photography will take place in Cape Town, South Africa from March 26-March 30, in collaboration with the Cape Town School of Photography. This opportunity is open to young and aspiring documentary photographers and photojournalists who are South African or are from the SADC (Southern African Development Community) region with a valid passport. Eligible photographers are welcome to submit their portfolios for selection by February 22, 2012. The workshop is free of charge; travel and accommodation will be organized by the local organization (possession of a passport and travel insurance is required to apply). During the five days of the workshop, 15 participants, together with three member photographers of NOOR and NOOR’s managing director will share experiences, work on portfolios, improve editing skills and learn how to pick up and develop stories. The Kalish Workshop to offer 4 Scholarships and 10 Stipends this Year

The Kalish workshop will be held this year from June 11-15 at Ball State University. The workshop is an intense four and a half days of intense training in storytelling through visual editing with an emphasis in multimedia. Participants will walk away from the workshop having learned to establish a narrative, select media mix, edit the narrative, and produce the story for online and print publication. Over the week, the faculty will lead participants in a combination of lectures, hands-on exercises, critiques, and group discussions. This year’s multimedia faculty includes Brian Storm of MediaStorm and Geri Migielicz of Story4. Additional sessions include Danny Gawlowski, The Seattle Times; Mark Edelson, The Palm Beach Post; Kenny Irby, The Poynter Institue; John Rumbach, The Herald; and Scott Sines, The Commercial Appeal.
