You\u2019ll oversee information graphics at a cutting-edge print and online news product while introducing a new generation of students to the skills and theories of the field.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/journalism.missouri.edu\/\" target=\"_new\">Missouri School of Journalism<\/a> has such a position. You\u2019ll teach a class and use its students as your staff to produce infographics and interactive information presentations for our web site and daily community newspaper. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.columbiamissourian.com\/\" target=\"_new\">Columbia Missourian<\/a> is edited by professionals and staffed by students from our classes. And, as a bonus, we\u2019re one of the few two-newspaper towns left, so the competition will keep you moving.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll be in charge of the infographics and work closely with other visual and word editors. Remember all those exciting things you want to do when YOU are graphics chief? Now you can. <\/p>\n<p>Columbia, Missouri, is a vibrant, sophisticated college town halfway between Kansas City and St. Louis. Several national magazines have ranked it as one of the country\u2019s best places to live.<\/p>\n<p>And Missourian graphics, as well as its entire product, compete successfully against the region\u2019s biggest metro news organizations. Our work also regularly takes top prizes in Society for News Design competitions.<\/p>\n<p>This is a chance not just to teach, but to learn. Previous people in this position have simultaneously earned master\u2019s degrees. Some Missourian editors have even earned Phd\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>This is a chance to grow, to stretch, to influence not just one paper but the entire informational graphics industry.<\/p>\n<p>Specific requirements: Excellent technical and computer skills are essential, including strong knowledge of FreeHand\/Illustrator, PhotoShop and InDesign. Other desirable software experience includes Flash, ArcView and\/or 3D software. Design experience is also a big plus. Time management skills will also come in handy. Candidates should have demonstrated ability to collaborate well with all parts of the newsroom. Master\u2019s degree preferred (though not required).
