Within a day global discourse reached a fever pitch &#8211;\u00a0news crews arrived, vigils were planned across the world and hashtags such as <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/muslimlivesmatter\" target=\"_blank\">#muslimlivesmatter<\/a> and #<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ourthreewinners\" target=\"_blank\">ourthreewinners<\/a> were trending on social media. How and why could a seemly liberal town be the backdrop for an anti-Muslim hate crime?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/aftertheshooting.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>After the Shooting<\/em><\/a>\u00a0is UNC-Chapel Hill\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jomc.unc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">School of Journalism and Mass Communication<\/a>\u00a0students&#8217; attempt to\u00a0understand the complicated issues surrounding the tragedy that occurred in their backyard. In their words, &#8220;As students, journalists and members of this community, we felt a responsibility to respond to this event. We created this project as a tool for communication, connection and understanding.
