{"id":18809,"date":"2014-12-11T10:14:35","date_gmt":"2014-12-11T15:14:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mediastorm.com\/blog\/?p=18809"},"modified":"2014-12-11T10:14:46","modified_gmt":"2014-12-11T15:14:46","slug":"mediastorm-guide-to-preparing-for-4k-monitors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/2014\/12\/11\/mediastorm-guide-to-preparing-for-4k-monitors\/","title":{"rendered":"MediaStorm Guide to Preparing for 4K Monitors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Currently at MediaStorm we\u2019re testing out a couple of 4K monitors to get a jump start on the future.<\/p>\n<p>The most startling difference between our battle-worn Apple 30-inch monitors and the new Samsung 32-inch 4K ones is the abundance of extra real estate.<\/p>\n<p>The screenshot below shows the approximate full-screen size of Premiere Pro on our older monitors. You can see there\u2019s about a third more space now.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-18818\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/blog1.png\" width=\"512\" height=\"290\" \/><br \/>\nThe resolution, as you might expect, is spectacular. Fonts are crisp. Images are striking.<\/p>\n<p>But this comes at a price. Text, to my aged eyes, is tiny. Minuscule even. There are, however, workarounds.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The first is to change font size in the Premiere Project window. To do this, <strong>right-click<\/strong> the <strong>Project<\/strong> window tab and <strong>select Font Size &gt; [font size]<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18817\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/blog2.png\" width=\"328\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/blog2.png 328w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/blog2-300x288.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 328px) 100vw, 328px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Adobe offers four options: small, medium\u2013the default, large, and extra large. For me, extra large works best. To do that, select <strong>System Preferences &gt; Displays<\/strong> and select <strong>Resolution: Scaled<\/strong>. Select a text size that works best.<\/p>\n<p>I use one size down from the default, as shown below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18816\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/blog7-e1418243654640.png\" width=\"512\" height=\"390\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can also increase your default font size in both the Finder and your internet browser.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Finder<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Click<\/strong> your <strong>desktop<\/strong> to return to the <strong>Finder<\/strong>. Then use the shortcut key <strong>Command-J<\/strong> to see the Finder\u2019s preference window. I set the <strong>Text size<\/strong> to <strong>14<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18815\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/blog8.png\" width=\"231\" height=\"592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/blog8.png 231w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/blog8-117x300.png 117w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 231px) 100vw, 231px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To change the size of the icons on the left side of your Finder window, under the <strong>Apple<\/strong> menu select <strong>System Preferences &gt; General<\/strong> and set the Sidebar <strong>icon size<\/strong> to <strong>Large<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18814\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/blog9.png\" width=\"462\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/blog9.png 462w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/blog9-300x280.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 462px) 100vw, 462px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Safari<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Select <strong>Safari &gt; Preferences &gt; Advanced<\/strong> and set <strong>Accessibility<\/strong> to the minimum font size of <strong>14<\/strong>. You can also use <strong>Command-+ [plus sign]<\/strong> to increase the font size on individual pages but this is not a global setting.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18811\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/blog10-e1418243465619.png\" width=\"512\" height=\"365\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As with all of these settings, your taste may vary.<\/p>\n<p>Got a good tip for working with 4K monitors?
