To read more about why we made the switch, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.com\/blog\/2012\/10\/19\/why-im-switching-to-abobe-premiere-not-final-cut-x\/\" target=\"_blank\">this post<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The new free release of the Mac operating system, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/osx\/\" target=\"_blank\">Yosemite<\/a> (10.10) offers an easy way to automate file renaming straight from the Finder.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, you needed to write an <a href=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.com\/blog\/2014\/05\/14\/mediastorm-guide-to-changing-file-names-with-automator\/\" target=\"_blank\">Automator<\/a> script or purchase an additional <a href=\"http:\/\/www.publicspace.net\/ABetterFinderRename\/\" target=\"_blank\">application<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To begin, simply <strong>right-click<\/strong> the Finder files you\u2019d like to rename and then select <strong>Rename [x] Items\u2026<\/strong> from the contextual menu. <strong>X <\/strong>represents the number of files you have selected.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18616\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bog1.png\" width=\"315\" height=\"475\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bog1.png 315w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bog1-198x300.png 198w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 315px) 100vw, 315px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->You\u2019ll be presented with a pulldown sheet that offers a number of renaming options including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Find and replace text:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18620\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/blog2-e1414008962886.png\" width=\"512\" height=\"217\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Add text before or after each selection:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18619\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/blog3-e1414008975244.png\" width=\"512\" height=\"149\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Format option to add the date or an index number before or after each selection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18618\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/blog4-e1414008996782.png\" width=\"512\" height=\"194\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In this short tutorial, I\u2019ll show you how to easily add underscores to your filename.<\/p>\n<p>After you\u2019ve selected your files in the Finder and selected <strong>Rename Items\u2026<\/strong>, choose <strong>Replace Text<\/strong> from the top dropdown menu options.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18617\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/blog5-e1414009008931.png\" width=\"512\" height=\"164\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>Find:<\/strong> window box, press the <strong>spacebar<\/strong> to create a space. Note that you can\u2019t see the space in the image above, but it\u2019s crucial.<\/p>\n<p>Then, in the <strong>Replace With:<\/strong> window type and underscore (\u201c_\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Also notice that you\u2019ll see an example of your proposed change at the bottom of the dialogue sheet.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, press the <strong>Rename<\/strong> button and you\u2019re good to go.
