(See <a href=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.org\/blog\/?p=709\" target=\"_blank\">Ten Ways to Improve Your Multimedia Production Right Now<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.org\/blog\/?p=1419\" target=\"_blank\">Ten Tips for Working with Music in Multimedia<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how to set up a one-frame fade as your default audio transition:<\/p>\n<p>Open the Effects window (<strong>command-5<\/strong>). In the <strong>Audio Transitions<\/strong> folder, note that one of the transitions has a line beneath it. The line indicates that it&#8217;s the default transition.<\/p>\n<p>If you have not previously changed the fade time, you&#8217;ll see &#8217;00:00:01;00&#8242; in the <strong>length<\/strong> column. That&#8217;s a default time of one second, zero frames.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Picture-1.png\" alt=\"Picture 1\" title=\"Picture 1\" width=\"348\" height=\"62\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1783\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Picture-1.png 348w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Picture-1-300x53.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 348px) 100vw, 348px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Highlight the number in the <strong>length<\/strong> column and enter &#8216;1&#8217; (just the number, no quotes). Then, press return.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Picture-4.png\" alt=\"Picture 4\" title=\"Picture 4\" width=\"345\" height=\"62\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1784\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Picture-4.png 345w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Picture-4-300x53.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Your default transition time should now be set to one frame.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes though, due to a Final Cut bug, you may find that when you now select an audio edit point and add the default transition (<strong>option-command-T<\/strong>), the fade remains at one second.<\/p>\n<p>To fix this, right-click <strong>Cross Fade (0db)<\/strong> and select <strong>Set Default Transition<\/strong>. The default line now appears beneath that transition.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Picture-5.png\" alt=\"Picture 5\" title=\"Picture 5\" width=\"337\" height=\"124\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1789\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Picture-5.png 337w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Picture-5-300x110.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 337px) 100vw, 337px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, repeat the procedure back on the <strong>Cross Fade (+3db)<\/strong>. Right-click the transition and select <strong>Set Default Transition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Picture-3.png\" alt=\"Picture 3\" title=\"Picture 3\" width=\"331\" height=\"147\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1790\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Picture-3.png 331w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Picture-3-300x133.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 331px) 100vw, 331px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now, when you select an audio edit point and apply the default transition (<strong>option-command-T<\/strong>), the fade will be one frame.<\/p>\n<p>Additional quick tips: to change the time of an audio fade that&#8217;s already been applied to the timeline, right-click on the fade and select <strong>Duration<\/strong>.
