Fortunately, you don&#8217;t need to do this manually as OS X provides powerful built-in automation tools.<\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>Applications<\/strong> folder, open <strong>Automator<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When you open Automator, you\u2019ll be presented with several options. Double-click <strong>Service<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17805\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog1.jpg\" width=\"512\" height=\"456\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog1.jpg 512w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog1-300x267.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Next, in the right-side panel, under <strong>Actions<\/strong> select <strong>Files &amp; Folders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17801\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog2.jpg\" width=\"380\" height=\"518\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog2.jpg 380w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog2-220x300.jpg 220w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Drag <strong>Files &amp; Folders <\/strong>action to the right column. You will be presented with a dialogue box that says:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17803\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog3.jpg\" width=\"435\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog3.jpg 435w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog3-300x152.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I chose the <strong>Don\u2019t Add<\/strong> button since any future changes can be made simply by using the service again as I explain below.<\/p>\n<p>At the top of the workflow, from the drop down menu, choose <strong>files or folders<\/strong> in <strong>Finder<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17797\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog4.jpg\" width=\"512\" height=\"43\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog4.jpg 512w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog4-300x25.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Below, in the <strong>Rename Finder Items <\/strong>action, select <strong>Add Text<\/strong> in the drop down menu. Most importantly, selects <strong>Options<\/strong> at the bottom and select <strong>Show this action when the workflows runs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17802\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog5.jpg\" width=\"512\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog5.jpg 512w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog5-300x159.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, <strong>save<\/strong> the service <strong>(command-s)<\/strong> and name it something like <em>rename<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Now when you return to the <strong>Finder, right-click<\/strong> a group of files and from the services menu <strong>choose your new service<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17798\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog6.jpg\" width=\"512\" height=\"628\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog6.jpg 512w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog6-244x300.jpg 244w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A popup menu will appear with the option to add text at the beginning or end of your file names.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17804\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog7.jpg\" width=\"512\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog7.jpg 512w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog7-300x145.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Enter text and hit the <strong>Continue<\/strong> button to quickly change your selected file names.<\/p>\n<p>Also available on the top of this window are numerous other file manipulation options including find and replace, add date, and change case.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17800\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog8.jpg\" width=\"512\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog8.jpg 512w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/blog8-300x143.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you really want to get fancy, you can create a keyboard shortcut for your service as well.<\/p>\n<p>To do this, from the <strong>Apple<\/strong> menu in the menu bar select <strong>System Preferences\u2026<\/strong> and choose <strong>Keyboard<\/strong> on the second row.
