A few weeks ago at a family function, I started chatting with the guy running the soundboard. I asked how could I make the vocal audio sound better.<\/p>\n

He said, all things being equal, the trick was to add 3 or 4 dB<\/strong> at about 3500 kHz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll walk you through how to do that in Premiere Pro.<\/p>\n

First, from the Effects<\/strong> window, search for EQ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Drag the effect on to the audio clip you\u2019d like to change. Then, double click<\/strong> the audio selection so that it opens in the Source<\/strong> window.<\/p>\n

In the Effects Control<\/strong> window you\u2019ll see all of the EQ<\/strong> options.<\/p>\n

While you can control individual parameters with sliders, I find it easier to click the Edit<\/strong>\u2026 button adjacent to Custom Setup<\/strong>. This opens a graphic equalizer window.<\/p>\n

In this example I\u2019ve raised, I\u2019ve checked<\/strong> the Mid3<\/strong> parameter and entered 3500k Hz<\/strong>, the frequency I want to affect, and raised its volume 4 dB<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve also increased the Q<\/strong>, or the bell curve surrounding 3500 kHz<\/strong>, by 1 oct<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The result is subtle but to my ears it gives the audio a bit more presence. Obviously, you can tweak to taste.<\/p>\n
