To read more about why we made the switch, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.com\/blog\/2012\/10\/19\/why-im-switching-to-abobe-premiere-not-final-cut-x\/\" target=\"_blank\">this post<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Reader Filip Lein asks, \u201cI would love to be able to make custom effects like I had in FCP7\u2026How can one make those please?\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Saving custom effects in Premiere Pro CC is easy but not obvious.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">First, add an effect to a clip by doing the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Search for the effect in <strong>Effects<\/strong> window (<strong>Shift\u20137<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Drag the effect on to your timeline clip.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Change the effect parameters by first clicking the clip in the timeline then opening the <strong>Effect Controls<\/strong> window (<strong>Shift\u20135<\/strong>). You may need to twirl down the disclosure triangle to see all of its options.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Once the effect is set to your specifications, <strong>right-click<\/strong> the name and choose <strong>Save Preset<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqzyfj.com\/click-6387448-10503029?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adobe.com%2Fproducts%2Fpremiere.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16757\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/blog1.gif\" width=\"512\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><!--more-->In the <strong>Save Preset<\/strong> window, give your custom effect a name and press <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqzyfj.com\/click-6387448-10503029?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adobe.com%2Fproducts%2Fpremiere.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16755\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/blog2.jpg\" width=\"414\" height=\"374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/blog2.jpg 414w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/blog2-300x271.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 414px) 100vw, 414px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">By default, Premiere Pro CC keeps your custom effects in the <strong>Presets<\/strong> folder of your <strong>Effects<\/strong> <strong>Window<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqzyfj.com\/click-6387448-10503029?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adobe.com%2Fproducts%2Fpremiere.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16756\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/blog3.jpg\" width=\"354\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/blog3.jpg 354w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/blog3-300x144.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 354px) 100vw, 354px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">To copy these effects to a new folder simply create a new folder by clicking the folder icon at the bottom of the <strong>Effects<\/strong> window.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqzyfj.com\/click-6387448-10503029?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adobe.com%2Fproducts%2Fpremiere.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16758\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/blog4.gif\" width=\"512\" height=\"518\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In my tests, a version of the effect remains in the <strong>Presets<\/strong> folder even when you drag it to a new folder. Deleting from the <strong>Presets<\/strong> window will also delete copies in other folders.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">To use a preset, simply drag it on to any timeline clip as usual.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>Have a Premiere Pro question?
