Former MediaStorm intern, <a href=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.com\/contributor\/andrew-hida\/837\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Hida<\/a>, took second place in this category for <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/49386359\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Follow My Steps<\/em><\/a>. Third place went to &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mercurynewsphoto.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/15\/gaylas-goodbye\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gayla&#8217;s Goodbye<\/a>&#8221; by Dai Sugano for the <em>San Jose Mercury News<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The BoP Awards honored many excellent multimedia pieces this year. Alan Spearman and The Commercial Appeal swept the awards with &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.commercialappeal.com\/as-i-am\/\" target=\"_blank\">Memphis Poverty: What Obama Didn&#8217;t See<\/a>,&#8221; which won <strong>Best Use Of Multimedia<\/strong>, first place for <strong>Feature Multimedia Story<\/strong> and honorable mention for <strong>Multimedia Package<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/framework.latimes.com\/2012\/07\/22\/crowding-the-planet\/#\/0\" target=\"_blank\">Framework<\/a>&#8221; by Albert Lee of the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em> won first place in the <strong>Multimedia Package<\/strong> and the <strong>Visual Column, Recurring Series or Visual Blog<\/strong> categories.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/49386359?byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=ffffff\" width=\"512\" height=\"288\" frameborder=\"0\" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen><\/iframe><em><a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/49386359\" target=\"_blank\">Follow My Steps<\/a> won second place in the BoP Documentary Multimedia Category<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In what BoP called &#8220;a deviation from normal judging,&#8221; the panel honored a second piece in the <strong>Best Use of Multimedia<\/strong> category with special recognition for &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/science\/prescription\/la-me-prescription-deaths-20121111-html,0,2363903.htmlstory?main=true\" target=\"_blank\">Dying for Relief<\/a>&#8221; by Liz O. Baylen of the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Other winners in the <strong>Multimedia Package<\/strong> category were the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with second place for &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.poweringanation.org\/water\/\" target=\"_blank\">100 Gallons<\/a>,&#8221; which includes the work of MediaStorm interns <a href=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.com\/contributor\/josh-davis\/2842\" target=\"_blank\">Josh Davis<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.com\/contributor\/jon-kasbe\/2843\" target=\"_blank\">Jon Kasbe<\/a>, and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/populationrising\" target=\"_blank\">Beyond 7 Billion<\/a>&#8221; by Rick Loomis and staff at the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em>, which took third place.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/48312847?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=ffffff\" width=\"512\" height=\"288\" frameborder=\"0\" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen><\/iframe><em><a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/48312847\" target=\"_blank\">As I Am<\/a> is part of &#8220;Memphis Poverty: What Obama Didn&#8217;t See,&#8221; which won Best Use Of Multimedia.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Second and third place for <strong>Feature Multimedia Story<\/strong> were &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/framework.latimes.com\/2012\/02\/13\/dementia\/\" target=\"_blank\">Losing Stu<\/a>&#8221; by Robert Gauthier of the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em> and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/science\/prescription\/la-video-another-day-without-alex-20130107,0,407979.htmlpage\" target=\"_blank\">Another Day Without Alex<\/a>&#8221; by Liz O Baylen for the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em>, respectively. MediaStorm intern Jon Kasbe was awarded honorable mention for <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/46404091\" target=\"_blank\"><em>A Beautiful Waste<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/46404091?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=6abdc4\" width=\"512\" height=\"288\" frameborder=\"0\" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen><\/iframe><em><a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/46404091\" target=\"_blank\">A Beautiful Waste<\/a> won honorable mention in the Feature Multimedia Story category.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reuters<\/em> won first place in the <strong>Tablet\/Mobile Delivery Project<\/strong> for &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/widerimage.reuters.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Wider Image<\/a>.&#8221; Second place went to &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/book\/health-care-911\/id515137747?mt=11\" target=\"_blank\">Health Care 911<\/a>&#8221; by James Gregg of <em>The San Diego Union-Tribune<\/em> and third place went to &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenewshouse.com\/webassets\/content\/pages\/push2012\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">PUSH Magazine<\/a>&#8221; by Debra Pang Davis, Multimedia Photography and Design Department at Syracuse University.<\/p>\n<p>The second and third place winners of <strong>Visual Column, Recurring Series or Visual Blog<\/strong> were, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.sfgate.com\/cityexposed\/2012\/10\/06\/yodeling-cowboy\/\" target=\"_blank\">The City, Exposed<\/a>&#8221; by Mike Kepka of the <em>San Francisco Chronicle<\/em> and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/cnnphotos.blogs.cnn.com\/2012\/01\/18\/cancer-the-battle-we-didnt-choose\/\" target=\"_blank\">CNN Photos<\/a>&#8221; by Simon Barnett, <em>CNN Digital<\/em>, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>For a full list of this years winners see the <a href=\"https:\/\/nppa.org\/node\/60191\" target=\"_blank\">NPPA BoP winners list<\/a>.
