\"\"<\/a>NPPF has eight scholarships and grants open for application for photographers studying full-time or returning to college. NPPF scholarships are awarded to encourage those with the talent and dedication to photojournalism and who need financial help to continue their studies. <\/p>\n

The application deadline for all eight scholarships is April 15<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

NPPF Scholarships<\/h2>\n

Bob East \u2013 $2,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bob East was a colorful and widely known veteran photographer at The Miami Herald. He died from a surgical accident in 1985, after more than 45 years in the profession. NPPA\u2019s national secretary; he mentored many interns.<\/p>\n

Open to undergraduate and graduate students.<\/p>\n

Bob Baxter \u2013 $2,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Named for a New Jersey photographer who was paralyzed in an auto accident but continued to pursue photojournalism education. Baxter set up this scholarship before his death.<\/p>\n

Reid Blackburn \u2013 $2,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Established by The Columbian newspaper of Vancouver, Wash., where Reid Blackburn, 27, was a photographer until his death. He died in 1980 while on assignment covering the eruption of Mt. St. Helens.<\/p>\n

NPPF Still and Multimedia \u2013 $2,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

NPPA members provide support for this scholarship, especially members of the NPPF Booster Club made up of NPPA life members. The scholarship is for photojournalism students concentrating on still and multimedia.<\/p>\n

Open only to undergraduate students.<\/p>\n

Jimi Lott \u2013 $2,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jimi Lott, a Seattle Times photographer for over 20 years, was known for his keen eye, his compassion, and boundless energy. His work focused on the less fortunate in the community including the homeless and the mentally ill. He died in 2005 at age 52.<\/p>\n

NPPF Television scholarships<\/p>\n

NPPF TV News \u2013 $2,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

NPPA members provide support for this scholarship, especially members of the NPPF Booster Club made up of NPPA life members. The scholarship is for television photojournalism students.<\/p>\n

Open only to undergraduate students.<\/p>\n

Yoder TV NewsVideo Workshop \u2013 $1,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

NPPA Sprague Award winner G. Gordon Yoder was a combat correspondent-photographer in Korea, a network photojournalist covering news including the civil rights movement in 1950\u2019s \u2013 1960\u2019s. He designed and manufactured the innovative 16mm Yoder Sound Camera \u2014 the standard for TV stations and networks.<\/p>\n

This scholarship is open to working TV photojournalists wishing to attend the NPPA TV NewsVideo Workshop. Candidates must have at least one year full-time employment at a TV station, network or cable news operation.<\/p>\n

College Photographer of the Year International<\/strong><\/p>\n

This competition, conducted by Kappa Alpha Mu and the University of Missouri School of Journalism, recognizes work by students currently pursuing a degree. The NPPF Booster Club provides the $1,000 Col. William Lookadoo award and the $500 Milton Freier award.<\/p>\n
