To read more about why we made the switch, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.com\/blog\/2012\/10\/19\/why-im-switching-to-abobe-premiere-not-final-cut-x\/\" target=\"_blank\">this post<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s post was written by MediaStorm producer <a href=\"http:\/\/mediastorm.com\/contributor\/eric-maierson\/5\" target=\"_blank\">Eric Maierson<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>One of the keys to getting up to speed on any editing application is to know your shortcuts.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/click-6387448-10503029?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adobe.com%2Fproducts%2Fcreativesuite%2Fproduction.html\" target=\"_blank\">Adobe Premiere<\/a>, these are available in the <strong>Premiere Pro > Keyboard Shortcuts&#8230; <\/strong>menu.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/click-6387448-10503029?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adobe.com%2Fproducts%2Fcreativesuite%2Fproduction.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/1-Keyboard-Shortcuts.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"1-Keyboard Shortcuts\" width=\"628\" height=\"739\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12713\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/1-Keyboard-Shortcuts.jpg 628w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/1-Keyboard-Shortcuts-254x300.jpg 254w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px\" \/><\/a>At the top of the window, you\u2019ll see a pull-down menu labeled <strong>Keyboard Layout Preset<\/strong>. By default this is set to <strong>Adobe Premiere Pro CS 6.0<\/strong>. These are Adobe\u2019s built-in shortcuts. If you\u2019d prefer to use the more familiar Final Cut Pro 7 shortcuts, choose the <strong>Final Cut Pro 7.0<\/strong> option from the pull-down menu.  <\/p>\n<p>After some debate, we\u2019ve decided at MediaStorm to use the default Adobe Premiere shortcuts. Though it might be easier in the short run to use the more familiar ones, we believe that over time, using Adobe\u2019s options will be easier when using shortcuts available throughout the company\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/click-6387448-10503029?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adobe.com%2Fproducts%2Fcreativesuite%2Fproduction.html\" target=\"_blank\">Production Premium<\/a> collection including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpbolvw.net\/click-6387448-10503029?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adobe.com%2Fproducts%2Fphotoshop.html\" target=\"_blank\">Photoshop<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqzyfj.com\/click-6387448-10503029?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adobe.com%2Fproducts%2Faftereffects.html\" target=\"_blank\">After Effects<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Still, there are some key tools that don\u2019t employ keyboard shortcuts by default. In these instances, we\u2019ve opted to use the FCP 7 shortcuts. Two of them are <strong>Clip Enable<\/strong> and <strong>Clip Link<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how to add them:<\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>Keyboard Shortcuts<\/strong> window enter the word <strong>link<\/strong> in the <strong>search bar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/click-6387448-10503029?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adobe.com%2Fproducts%2Fcreativesuite%2Fproduction.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/2-Keyboard-Shortcuts.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"2-Keyboard Shortcuts\" width=\"513\" height=\"301\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12714\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/2-Keyboard-Shortcuts.jpg 513w, https:\/\/www.mediastorm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/2-Keyboard-Shortcuts-300x176.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 513px) 100vw, 513px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the<strong>Shortcut<\/strong> field adjacent to <strong>Clip > Link<\/strong> enter the familiar shortcut <strong>Option-L<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Repeat this process for <strong>Clip > Enable<\/strong> using the shortcut <strong>Control-B<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Other customizations we use are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Option-G<\/strong> gain<br \/>\n<strong>Option-L<\/strong> link<br \/>\n<strong>Command-Option-T<\/strong> default transition<br \/>\n<strong>Control-B<\/strong> disable clip<\/p>\n<p><strong>Control-Option-Shift-Track number<\/strong> target video<br \/>\n<strong>Control-Shift-Track number<\/strong> target audio<br \/>\n<strong>Option-R<\/strong> render in to out<br \/>\n<strong>Option-V<\/strong> remove effects from clip<\/p>\n<p><strong>Command +<\/strong> increase video track height<br \/>\n<strong>Command &#8211;<\/strong> decrease video track height<br \/>\n<strong>Option +<\/strong> increase audio track height<br \/>\n<strong>Option &#8211;<\/strong> decrease audio track height<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll notice that the <strong>Keyboard Layout Preset<\/strong> changes to <strong>[Custom]<\/strong>. If you\u2019d like to name your new keyboard layout press <strong>Save As&#8230;<\/strong> and enter a name. <\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> when you\u2019re done.<\/p>\n<p>Keyboard Layouts are stored in ~\/Library\/Application Support\/Adobe\/Premiere Pro\/6.0<br \/>\nwith the extension <strong>.kys<\/strong>.
