MediaStorm Guide to Nudging in Premiere Pro CC

A great new feature in Adobe Premiere Pro CC is the ability to nudge clips up and down tracks using only the keyboard. To set a shortcut, simply open the Premiere Pro > Keyboard Shortcuts… menu. Then, search for “clip.” You’ll want to add shortcuts for Nudge Clip Selection Up and Nudge Clip Selection Down. We use Command-Up Arrow and Command-Down Arrow, respectively since they are similar to the default shortcuts for nudging clips left (Command-Left Arrow) and right (Command-Left Arrow). As a producer, I log hours and hours of video. There are three mistakes that I frequently see. They cut across all levels of experience. Fortunately, they’re easy to fix. Don’t Talk When Shooting B-roll It’s easy to think that you won’t need audio when you’re shooting visual sequences. But the truth is, b-roll is far more dynamic when it includes natural sound. B-roll with sound can be used for pacing between sections of your project or to cover interview sound bites and provide a rich texture. If you talk while shooting, you lose this opportunity. You’re left with just visuals. While you can sometimes get away with this, say when you use music, it’s far better to have the option of using natural sound. If you have it, chances are that you’ll find a use for it. Remember, no matter how softly you speak, the camera microphone will hear you. So…

For those interested in multimedia training, both the Knight Digital Media Center and the NPPA have upcoming seminars. The Knight Digital Media Center at the University of California, Berkeley, Graduate School of Journalism, is currently accepting Fellowship applications for: Multimedia Reporting Training Seminars May 18 – 23; June 8 – 13; and July 6- 11, 2008 Application deadline for all workshops is APRIL 11, 2008 The Knight Digital Media Center Multimedia Training Program is accepting applications for 20 fellowships per workshop for journalists to attend these seminars that combine practical instruction in multimedia reporting with in-depth exploration of issues in online publishing. We are accepting concurrent applications for workshops being offered in May, June and July 2008. Applicants may apply to one, two or all three workshops. Bearing Witness: Five Years of the Iraq War

Reuters and MediaStorm collaborated to create Bearing Witness: Five Years of the Iraq War, launched to coincide with the war's 5th anniversary. The site features profiles of three Reuter's journalists who have more than 23 years combined experience reporting and photographing in Iraq. Reuters video, photography, info-graphics and journalists are showcased in this 5 chapter interactive application created from more than 20 hours of video footage and images selected from 3,600 of the best of Reuters photographs -- some published here for the first time. Additional chapters include a timeline of the Iraq War made up of 223 still images and 15 videos, and five maps drawn from dozens of pages of data.
