Ethical Reporting on Children by Discover the Journey

Our work often involves reporting on children and at times in conflict zones or areas when a child's safety or integrity may be compromised. In a recent review of our parental release we came across a helpful resource from Discover the Journey (DTJ) for storytellers working with children. The Child Protection Manifesto from DTJ explores policies and best practices that inform how and why to tell stories about children at risk, based on thousands of hours spent listening to children around the world. In addition to adhering to UNICEF’s “Principles for Ethical Reporting on Children,” the Child Protection Manifesto explains DTJ’s philosophy and outlines specific guidelines for media usage and media gathering. Discover a Bigger, Badder New York with Narratively

Discover Narratively It’s no secret that New York is saturated with top-notch media outlets. But in such a fast-paced city, many of those outlets have no choice but to focus on the 24/7 cycle of breaking news, politics, entertainment and gossip. MediaStorm Advanced Multimedia Workshop accepting applications for July 17-23, 2010 Workshop

There are still a few spots open for our upcoming Advanced Multimedia Reporting Workshop, to be held in New York City July 17-23, 2010. Application deadline is May 16, 2010. This is a workshop for seasoned storytellers who have professional multimedia experience and are looking to further expand their multimedia storytelling capabilities. Applicants should have a working knowledge of audio recorders, video and still cameras and non-linear editing software. This is not an introductory workshop. Participants will be working at a fast-paced professional level, moving from story concept to a completed multimedia story in 6 days. New MediaStorm Advanced Multimedia Workshop Projects Launched, Additional Workshop Dates Added

From March 6-12, 2010, we held our sixth MediaStorm Advanced Multimedia Reporting Workshop. Three teams of talented professionals, along with MediaStorm Producer Eric Maierson and guest producers Scott Anger and Rick Gershon, conceived, reported, and produced the following projects: Take Care by Gillian Laub, Henrik Björnsson, Elena Ghanotakis, and Laura Varma Virginia Gandee's brilliant red hair and dozen tattoos belie the reality of this 22-year-old's life. Inside her family's Staten Island trailer her caregiving goes far beyond the love she has for her daughter. Close to Home by Mary Beth Meehan, Michele Asselin and Maria Finitzo Roxanne Pickering is a Brooklyn resident bound by family and economics to live near the Gowanus Canal, a polluted waterway recently declared an EPA superfund site. MediaStorm Multimedia Storytelling Workshop Announced

We are excited to announce that we will be holding a One Day Multimedia Storytelling Workshop on Wednesday, October 21, in New York City. The workshop will be held in Manhattan- specific location to be announced shortly. The Workshop will be held from 10am-6pm. The cost of the Workshop is $250. A special discount rate of $200 is available to full-time students. This one-day workshop provides an overview of multimedia storytelling approaches while engaging participants in discussion about the most appropriate ways to create a multimedia story. Through real world examples, the instructor will share tips and techniques to improve reporting and editing and discuss the most effective tools for specific jobs.
