Bob Sacha - The Anatomy of a Prize Winning Multimedia Production - from the First Idea to the Finished Piece For more than 25 years Bob Sacha was a prize winning photojournalist constantly traveling the world on assignment for National Geographic, Life and other magazines. Then in January 2008, he joined the award winning multimedia production studio MediaStorm. His first assignment started with an email from Brian Storm: " I have a big project for you to start with working with Reuters to create a five year anniversary project on Iraq. I think it's going to be a really important project that will get quite a bit of attention when it comes out....." We Media Game Changers Awards

We Media has posted the finalists for their 2009 Game Changers Awards. These awards are given to "people, projects, ideas and organizations leading change and inspiring a better world through media."  Awards are based on seven categories: Story, Design, Social Impact, Pattern Change, Purpose, Community, Sustainability. MediaStorm is thrilled to be in the running for the finalists- both for MediaStorm.org, and for Bearing Witness, a project we collaborated on with Reuters for the 5th anniversary of the war in Iraq.  There are 33 other finalists, and there are some really fantastic projects/sites in there- it's well worth spending some time going through this list. Visitors can go through and rate each of the nominees- there's no official "vote", but a Community Choice award will be given out based on the ratings along with the awards from the official judges.  Check it out.

ONA Announces Online Journalism Awards Winners

The Online News Association announced the winners of their annual Online Journalism Awards during their annual conference on September 13. Reuters.com/MediaStorm won the Multimedia Feature, Large Site: category for Bearing Witness, a collaborative site launched on the 5th Anniversary of the Iraq war, featuring profiles of three Reuter’s journalists who have more than 23 years combined experience reporting and photographing in Iraq.   With nearly 800 entrants per category, these awards recognize the best in online journalism. Bearing Witness: Five Years of the Iraq War

Reuters and MediaStorm collaborated to create Bearing Witness: Five Years of the Iraq War, launched to coincide with the war's 5th anniversary. The site features profiles of three Reuter's journalists who have more than 23 years combined experience reporting and photographing in Iraq. Reuters video, photography, info-graphics and journalists are showcased in this 5 chapter interactive application created from more than 20 hours of video footage and images selected from 3,600 of the best of Reuters photographs -- some published here for the first time. Additional chapters include a timeline of the Iraq War made up of 223 still images and 15 videos, and five maps drawn from dozens of pages of data.
