Alexia Foundation Opens Call for Grant Applications

The Alexia Foundation is accepting grant applications for its 2015 Professional and Student Grants. The deadline for submissions for the Professional Grant is 2 p.m. on January 29th, 2015. The deadline for the Student Grant is 2 p.m. on February 2nd, 2015.

The Alexia Foundation Grants were established to give voice to those who go unheard, foster cultural understanding and expose social injustice. The strength of the proposal will be judged equally to photographic skills. The Grant goes to those who clearly and concisely propose significant projects that share in the Foundation’s mission of promoting peace and understanding and who also submit photographs that reflect the ability to execute their proposed project.

Available Grants

  • The Professional Grant recipient will receive to $20,000 to help produce his or her proposed project.
  • The Student Winner will receive funding for a semester at the Syracuse University London Program, a $1,000 cash grant to help produce the proposed body of work, and $500 will be awarded to that student’s academic department. A student award will also be given to the Second Place Winner. The judges will determine the number of Award of Excellence Winners there will be.
  • The Gilka Grant, honoring Robert E. Gilka, will recognize the best student project proposal that also includes a multimedia component. The winner of the Gilka Grant will receive a scholarship to attend the Kalish Workshop.

Alexia Foundation Opens Call for Entries November 15th

The Alexia Foundation will begin accepting grant applications on November 15th, 2013. The deadline is January 13th, 2014 for professionals, and January 27th for students.

The Alexia Foundation Grants were established to help promote world peace and cultural understanding. The strength of the proposal will be judged equally to photographic skills. The Grant goes to those who clearly and concisely propose significant projects that share in the Foundation’s mission of promoting peace and understanding and who also submit photographs that reflect the ability to execute their proposed project.

Available Grants

  • This year the award for the Professional Grant has been raised to $20,000.
  • The Student Winner will receive funding for a semester at the Syracuse University London Program, a $1,000 cash grant to help produce the proposed body of work, a $300 gift card from Dury’s Photo and $500 will be awarded to that student’s academic department. Student awards will also be awarded to a Second Place Winner, and three Award of Excellence Winners.
  • The Foundation has added a new student grant, The Gilka Grant, which will recognize the best project proposal that also includes a multimedia component. The winner of The Gilka Grant will receive a $1,500 scholarship to attend the Kalish Workshop.

Tim Hetherington Grant Calls for Applications

World Press Photo and Human Rights Watch invite press photographers and photojournalists around the world to apply for the third Tim Hetherington Grant. The annual grant, worth €20,000, will be awarded to a photographer to complete an existing project on a human rights theme.

The judges will look for the qualities that defined Tim’s career when reviewing the applications: work that operates on multiple platforms and in a variety of formats; that crosses boundaries between breaking news and longer-term investigation; and that demonstrates a consistent moral commitment to the lives and stories of the photographic subjects.

Fernando Moleres received the second Tim Hetherington Grant in 2012 for his project “Waiting for an opportunity”.
