College Photographer of the Year Call for Entries

It's time to pull together the best of your images for entry in the annual College Photographer of the Year competition. There are important changes in the portfolio and multimedia categories this year as well as the addition of two new interpretive categories. Entry fee: Free, courtesy of Nikon Inc. Deadline: Oct. 7, 2012, 11:59 pm CST Apply: entry.cpoy.org This year's awards include a Nikon Digital SLR camera set, an internship at National Geographic Magazine, National Press Photographers Foundation scholarships, and post-production collaboration with MediaStorm, among others. Registration for NPPA's Convergence '09 event is now open. This year's lineup features 3 separate events- the Multimedia Immersion Workshop, June 6-10, a one-day seminar celebrating the 20th year of NPPA's Women in Photojournalism, on June 10, and the Visual Journalism Workshops, June 11-13. The Convergence conference will be held in Las Vegas, NV. For those interested in multimedia training, the Multimedia Immersion Seminar is definitely worth checking out- our own Eric Maierson will be there as one of the coaches, along with some of the best in the industry. It will be "an intense, five-day, hands-on training experience for visual journalists looking to expand and grow their multimedia skillsets." April 2008 Digital Journalist now online

The April 2008 Digital Journalist is now online. Scott Jensen of KTUU in Anchorage, was recently named NPPA's TV News Photojournalist of the Year. Three stories from his award-winning portfolio, along with his favorite story, are on the site, each with a video interview with Jensen. This month's issue also features "Philip Jones Griffiths in Memorium," a tribute to the late photographer, whose work in Vietnam and throughout his career at Magnum made such a great impact on photojournalists and on everyone who saw his work.

Multimedia Training Opportunities

For those interested in multimedia training, both the Knight Digital Media Center and the NPPA have upcoming seminars. The Knight Digital Media Center at the University of California, Berkeley, Graduate School of Journalism, is currently accepting Fellowship applications for: Multimedia Reporting Training Seminars May 18 – 23; June 8 – 13; and July 6- 11, 2008 Application deadline for all workshops is APRIL 11, 2008 The Knight Digital Media Center Multimedia Training Program is accepting applications for 20 fellowships per workshop for journalists to attend these seminars that combine practical instruction in multimedia reporting with in-depth exploration of issues in online publishing. We are accepting concurrent applications for workshops being offered in May, June and July 2008. Applicants may apply to one, two or all three workshops. Because we receive far more applications than we can accommodate, applicants are encouraged to apply for multiple workshops to increase their chances of being accepted…
