An In-Depth Look at Multimedia Trends Around the World

In a pioneering study commissioned by World Press Photo, Dr. David Campbell examines current practices in multimedia against the background of the disruption in the traditional media economy and the revolution in how people consume news today. Visual Storytelling in the Age of Post-Industrialist Journalism The project, which ran from July 2012-April 2013, aims to map the global emergence and development of multimedia in visual storytelling, especially photojournalism. The study examines these issues through a comparative look at multimedia trends in three parts of the world: the USA, Europe, and China. In each of these locations, the research team asked five questions: How is multimedia being produced? How is multimedia being financed? How is multimedia being published and distributed, and who is publishing/distributing multimedia? How are viewers consuming multimedia?
