Dart Society Benefit and Auction May 17

The Dart Society will be holding a benefit and auction at the gallery 25CPW in New York City on Thursday, May 17, beginning at 6 p.m. The benefit will honor Joel Simon of the Committee to Protect Journalists, photojournalist Lynsey Addario, and writer and documentarian Sebastian Junger for their commitment to excellence and compassion in the coverage of conflict, trauma and social injustice. Tickets to the event, which will feature live and silent auctions of photography and books by Dart Society members and their colleagues, are $75 for one ticket and $100 for two. Proceeds from ticket sales and auction items will be used to support the Dart Society’s outreach programs to journalists covering trauma and to support Dart Society Reports, which showcases the best work in trauma journalism. MediaStorm Nominated for 2012 Webby Awards

We are thrilled to announce two MediaStorm projects have been honored by the 2012 Webby Awards. A Thousand More is a nominee for this year's Webby Awards in the Documentary: Individual Episode category. A Thousand More is also in the running for the Webby People's Voice Awards. NPPA Announces Short Grants for Photographers

The National Press Photographers Association is pleased to announce the 2011 Short Grants program, five grants of $3,000 each that will be awarded to support photojournalists who are creating compelling picture stories in their communities. "Budgets for newsrooms are shrinking and one of the greatest victims is the community photo story," NPPA executive director Mindy Hutchison said. "Photographers often don’t have the time or the funding that they used to have to work on compelling stories in their community. So NPPA is bringing back the community photo story project through the NPPA Short Grants, with five awards of $3,000 each. The grant is designed for funding projects small enough in scale that the bulk of the work can be accomplished in two weeks or less." The Aftermath Project is offering two special opportunities: a $20,000 grant for conflict photographers to share their experiences with the aftermath of covering conflict, and an additional $5,000 honorarium for a fixer/translator who wants to tell a story about their own experience. Asian Center for Journalism offering online Multimedia Diploma Program

The Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University is offering a new Multimedia Diploma program. The one year diploma is taught mainly online. It is designed for any professional journalist (writers, photographers, radio and TV reporters) wishing to diversify their story telling and embrace the world of new media. From their site: The Diploma in Multimedia Journalism program seeks to raise the bar in professionalism amongst Asian journalists in their ability to undertake ethical cross platform multimedia journalistic projects by providing comprehensive institutional training primarily to working journalists and editors. 10 Scholarships are available for Asian journalists.
