ASMP/Newhouse-sponsored panel, “Photography: The State of the Industry”

This panel discussion will revolve around how the industry has been affected by technology and the recent recession, what top professionals have learned, and how to prepare for success in this new world. Photo District News editor Holly Stuart Hughes will moderate the panel, which will include Gene Mopsik (executive director of ASMP) and Pam Huling (business development director at MediaStorm and former director of photo services at Discovery).

Photo District News Emerging 30 Seminar, “Transitions: Strategies for Young Working Photographers.”

Three photographers featured in this year’s PDN 30 issue (which highlights top new talent) will offer their perspectives on getting started in the photography industry. Panelists will share how they got to where they are today, including how they got their first jobs and structured their first promotional efforts. They will discuss what they learned in school, what they wished they had been taught and will share career advice you won’t hear anywhere else. This seminar is a must for any young photographer beginning his or her career. Panelists are Andy Katz (Sony Artisan of Imagery), Elissa Curtis (The New Yorker’s associate picture editor), and PDN’s 30 photographers Misha Friedman, Lauren Hermele and Ryan Pfluger and will be moderated by Holly Stuart Hughes, Editor of PDN.
