Online MA/Postgraduate Photojournalism and Documentary Photography course launching

The London College of Communication is launching an online MA/Postgraduate Diploma Photojournalism and Documentary Photography distance learning program, to begin January 2008. This part-time course aims to mirror real world practices and prepare students to enter the professional world. Many presentations by visiting speakers will be delivered via podcasts, and students will be encouranged to make use of blogs and online distribution. The course is entirely online, with no requirements for attendance in London. The program will largely focus on digital transitions, and multimedia projects will be emphasized. Never Coming Home book launch and update

Beginning in the summer of 2004, photojournalist Andrew Lichtenstein and audio producer Zac Barr began interviewing American families who had lost a loved one in Iraq. Their stories, along with intimate photographs of the military funerals and the families, are told in Never Coming Home, originally published on MediaStorm in 2005. Previously seen in many major media publications, Andrew's award-winning images are now available in a book compilation, published this fall. The book launch for Never Coming Home will be on Monday, October 29, 6:30-8:00pm, at The Bubble Lounge, 228 West Broadway, NYC. Additional stories from the project will be premiering that day on MediaStorm.

Paolo Pellegrin’s Double Blind featured on Digital Journalist

Photojournalist Paolo Pellegrin recently published his fifth book, Double Blind, a look at the Lebanon Conflict during the summer of 2006. A gallery of the images from the book is featured in the Digital Journalist's October issue. Of his work during the conflict, Pellegrin says "As journalists, we were traveling a battlescape where all the traditional realities of the frontline had disappeared and where it was impossible to know how or where things were happening, or what might be about to happen next. It was, in many respects, an invisible war – until suddenly, it wasn't." Pellegrin, a member of Magnum Photos since 2005, has spent many years covering conflict and stories around the world. He was awarded the Robert Capa Gold Medal this year, the W. Eugene Smith Award in 2006, and has won numerous other awards.
