TESTIMONIALS
As a print photojournalist, I went into MediaStorm's workshop with a skeptical eye. Two days later both my notebook and my brain were filled with the new ideas and opportunities being offered by the medium of web-based visual journalism. Two months later, I am still processing what I learned. This stuff isn't the future. It is now. I am convinced there has never been a better time to be a visual journalist. And there may be no person better suited to show you the way into this new medium than Brian Storm.

I learned more in a couple days with Brian than I could learn in several months any other way. I still refer to my notes from his workshop. Even more than the technical information I picked up, Brian's enthusiasm directly lead to a new vision for multimedia in our department.

So many papers are trying to rub sticks together to start a fire when all they need is a match. Brian's training with the Tribune Company helped focus the debate for what's important - good pictures and stories well told. Then he backed up his evangelizing with solid primers on technique.

Having Brian spend time with the photo directors and editors help set the tone for the direction we take in multimedia. The workshop opened up the possibilities that have gone mostly untested in the newspaper industry. As we move forward, these lessons learned will increase The Morning Call's audience especially when we tell stories with beautiful imagery and voices to create the complete narrative.

While this workshop will supplement prior knowledge, Reporters should have a solid grasp of still photography, audio gathering, and video skills. Editors should be familiar with Final Cut Pro. Truly the best investment I have made this year. The workshop comprises not just of valuable information on practicalities, improving process efficiency, advanced Final Cut, timesaving techniques but the dedicated MediaStorm team also provides wide ranging in the field guidance, including how to shoot stills and video for multimedia - which is different! Taking this time out to totally focus on multimedia, discuss and debate topics, receive advice on story structure, themes and totally focusing on bringing myself to the next level has already helped me in my day-to-day life as a freelancer. This opportunity is second to none.

As a freelancer the jump into multimedia felt a bit like climbing a mountain in the dark. The MediaStorm workshop could not have come at a better point in my career, filling in many of the blanks and answering a ton of questions. Not for a second, (not even at 5am on Thursday morning...), did I regret the decision to invest in this workshop. It was worth every moment and every penny.

Spending six days on a MediaStorm workshop was a career-changing experience. Where else can you finesse your multimedia storytelling skills with the absolute best in the business? We were trained in the techniques to shoot video like the pros. Then in post-production we learned the best way to edit our footage to create slick and polished presentations. Exposure to the MediaStorm workflows and practices is invaluable, and provides you with a template to structure and manage future projects. They're a fabulous team to work with, and incredibly generous with sharing their experience and expertise. By the time I reluctantly left MediaStorm I was inspired beyond measure, and felt armed with the missing pieces of the puzzle to produce high-quality news multimedia productions.
